5 Benefits of a Simplistic Make-Up Routine

Make-Up. Ah, what a fun thing that we get to play around with! I love the idea that make-up gets to enhance our natural features, however I hate when we discredit our own natural beauty when we "don't have our face on."

How many times have you looked in the mirror and focused on everything you dislike about yourself? Let's face it, we've all been there.

For me, it took one morning of waking up late for work and not a lot of time to get ready to see that I should be embracing all my features and that I didn't need all the make-up I was using.

Now don't get me wrong, I still love to glam it up for special events and love watching the latest make-up videos. Heck, I still even love doing make-up on other people! But for my every day look, I stopped covering my face to feel confident and it was one of the most freeing things I've done.

Routine Then vs. Now

Routine before: face primer, eye primer, concealer, foundation, setting powder, contour, highlight, blush, using three different palettes to create one eye look (and you know you've got to blend, blend, blend), eye liner, mascara, brow definer, lip liner, and lipstick or lipgloss.

Routine now: concealer (use this to even out my eye lids too), blush, contour shade (which I also use in the crease of my eyes), mascara, lipgloss or chapstick, and occasionally brow powder.

(Yes, you read right -- besides for special events I don't really wear foundation anymore. And it has been a huge benefit to my skin. Read on to find out more!)

5 Benefits of a Simplistic Make-up Routine

1. Saves Time

I used to be the girl that took forever to get ready. I hated the feeling of being rushed every day and what I hated even worse was having family and friends wait on me to go places. I would actually get super anxious and I never realized it until now.

By minimizing what I do in my routine, I'm able to get ready quickly and spend more time and create more moments with those that matter most. No longer do I fear someone telling me to be ready in 20 minutes (including both hair and make-up) -- because I got this!

2. Saves Money

Okay, so I used to love buying make-up. But now I don't have to buy as many products. And my products last so much longer since I'm not using as much. It's so nice not having to constantly repurchase these like I was once before. No brainer on this one.

3. Saves Space

Less "stuff" means less space that it has to take up. Duh! This is handy for traveling and is especially going to come in handy for our move. I actually did a huge clean out a few months ago and got rid of a ton of products that were just there, taking up space. Now, I love that everything I use is easily accessible.

4. Healthier Skin

I had a thought one day when my skin was breaking out so badly. I turned to Roberto and said "instead of spending money on more make-up to cover up my (problematic) skin, I want to invest in quality skin products so that I don't have to cover it up." And that's exactly what I did.

I can't believe I'm actually sharing the before picture (and this was even a mild breakout), but just wanted to show you what barely wearing make-up and investing in quality skin care products vs. investing in more make-up to cover it up has done for me skin.

In the before picture, I was actually wearing make-up whereas in the after picture, I have NO product on my face! If you you're interested in learning more about my routine, you can check that out here

Since investing more into my skin care routine and less on make-up to cover up my face, I haven't needed to cover up my face to make me feel confident. Which leads me to my last benefit.

5. More Confident

Never in a million years did I think I'd see the day where I would feel more confident wearing minimal make-up than I do with a full face. Like I mentioned before, I do a full face on special occasions, but for me, I actually feel so much better about myself when I'm wearing less. I don't know why, but it's true.

If you're someone who feels better wearing a full face of make-up, then keep doing you! If you don't wear any make-up, that's cool too! Nobody should ever judge you on how much or how little make-up you wear.

It's important to feel CONFIDENT in BEAUTIFUL. We're all naturally beautiful. Your bare face is just as beautiful as a full face of make-up. And all that took me to discover this was one tired girl on a sleepy morning.
