Before visiting, I recommend checking to see what the weather will be ahead of time. If you're trying to prepare for a trip months in advance just research and see what the weather is usually like during the time that you're going to be here. That way if you have general idea, you can start prepping! Also remember that even if you do forget something, there are so many places that you can go to here to get what you need!
Jackets
1. WATERPROOF / RAIN JACKET
2. TRENDY JACKET (Jean Jacket, Leather Jacket, etc.)
We've had surprisingly good weather since our arrival. However, I always have a jacket with me. There are a few I recommend packing. Even though it may look sunny during the day, rain can start happening at anytime which is why I always have my North Face rain jacket with me during the day. If I don't wear that jacket, I usually always try to have a coat or some type of hood with me. Trench coats, or winter coats that are waterproof are also great to have (depending on what month you come, of course).
Also, I've noticed jean jackets, leather jackets, bombers, etc. are popular here -- especially for going out. So I recommend bringing a nicer coat in case you're going out and want to keep warm, but still look trendy!
Cardigans
If you didn't already know, layering will become your best friend in Dublin. Cardigans are such a great way to do that. They're quick and easy to throw on and still look cute and stylish.
There have been so many times when I've stepped outside and I'll be cold, but then minutes later I get really warm so it's nice to able to quickly adjust to whatever the weather decides to do. Also, depending on where you stay, you may or may not have central heating so cardigans are a quick way to get and stay cozy.
Scarves/Beanies
I usually always have a scarf with me -- again always layering! The best part is scarves are very versatile and go with just about any look. I think even in the warmer months, having a cute summery scarf is a great accessory to have.
For the colder months, I recommend a beanie, winter hat, or ear muffs. Once the wind picks up and starts to hit you against the cold air, you'll be thankful you brought one!
Nice Outfit(s)
While you may want to be in comfortable clothing when walking around and exploring during the day, I would highly recommend bringing a nice outfit or two for going out at night -- even if it is just for dinner.
Dublin loves their fashion, however it doesn't feel as extreme to me as say, London. From what I've seen they are stylish, but their clothes also look comfortable. (Sweaters, not super fitted pants, pairing cute sneakers with their looks, etc.)
It all depends on where you're planning to go, but overall I think jeans and a nice, dressier top are perfect to bring. I made the mistake of not packing enough going out tops for dinner and such. And while I don't necessarily stick out, I just wish I had more options to make a better outfit and fit in a little more. (Can't wait until the rest of our stuff gets here!)
Shoes
1. WATERPROOF SHOES (also ones that are comfortable to walk in)
2. PAIR OF SHOES TO GO OUT IN
Of course you want to make sure the shoes you bring are comfortable, but also try to make sure that they're waterproof and/or dry easily. There's nothing worse than having wet shoes and stinky feet. And as previously mentioned, (depending on where you plan on going) bring at least one nice pair of shoes for the evening to go out. This could be as fancy as heeled wedges or as simple as your favorite rider boots.
I must say since we've been here, I have been in love with the style of everyone's shoes! Shoes have been the one thing that stand out to me on everyone here. A lot of people wear flats, but they are so stylish. I have my eye on a few pairs that I'll probably end up getting.
Non-Clothing Items
1. UMBRELLA
Bringing an umbrella is a good idea, however if it's super windy I would just use a hood and not even bother with it. There have been so many times where I've seen broken umbrellas on the side of the road. If it's a light drizzle then use it, but if it's a heavy rain with high winds opt for a hood and rain jacket to stay dry.
2. CHAPSTICK
On the windy days your lips can take a beating, so keep those lips hydrated!
3. TRAVEL ADAPTER
The voltage and charging outlets are different in Europe. Make sure to get the right adapter as well as check the voltage on electronics such as blow dryers, hair straighteners, etc. before packing them so that you don't use them here and ruin them if they aren't compatible!
One thing I'm looking forward to the most is having friends and family come visit us! Being far away from everyone we love isn't easy. But, it gives us the chance to make new memories with everyone in a new city -- ones that we probably never would have made had we not moved to Dublin. We already have some friends and family who have booked their trips and my heart couldn't be happier!
Those that are visiting or plan to in the future, I hope this list helps!
Anything you would add? Or anything you have questions on, let me know!
